VMT is an estimate of travel based on traffic counts taken along the roads in New York State. Each year travel is estimated as part of the annual report to the Federal Highway Administration through the Highway Performance Monitoring System software application. The VMT estimate is stratified by the roadway Functional Classification of Principal Arterials, Minor Arterials, Collectors, and Local Roads & Street. The VMT data from 1985 through the current year is available.

Urban Area | urban_area | text | Urban areas are designated by the US Census Bureau based on population density per Census block. The actual boundaries of the designated urban areas may be adjusted for transportation purposes. Such areas of greater than 50,000 in population are designated “urbanized”. Areas from 5,000 to 50,000 are considered “small urban”. Areas of less then 5,000 are Rural. | Rural Small Urban Urbanized view top 100 |

Vehicle Miles Travelled | vehicle_miles_travelled | number | Daily Vehicle Miles of Travel shown in thousands of miles of Vehicle Miles of Travel per day. DVMT is calculated by multiplying the Annual Average of the Daily Traffic for each roadway segment by the segment length, summing the results within the specified categories (Urbanized Interstate, for example), and then dividing by 1000. Estimates of AADT are used for some segments where no traffic counts exist. DVMT estimates for groupings of roadways where minimal traffic data exists are developed from prior year DVMT estimates and projected growth rates. | 12728 2186 25748 13859 20143 view top 100 |
