Oil and Gas Annual Production: Beginning 2001

data.ny.gov | Last Updated 30 Apr 2024

This dataset contains annual production information of oil and gas wells in New York State from 2001 to present.

This dataset has the following 18 columns:

Column NameAPI Column NameData TypeDescriptionSample Values
API Well Numberapi_wellnonumber14 digit API (American Petroleum Institute) unique identifying number
CountycntytextCounty name
Company NameconametextCompany Name
API Hole Numberholetext5-digit API hole number
Sidetrack Codesidetrcktext2-digit sidetrack code. Sidetracks are directionally drilled wellbores that deviate from the initial wellbore. Commonly, sidetracks are horizontal but can be at any angle to the initial wellbore. Sidetracks may drilled to access formations that otherwise would not be reachable with conventional methods. They are commonly used to divert the main wellbore around broken tools in the hole, an unstable formation or loss zone, and when the well is being re-entered to drill a horizontal leg.
Completion Codecompletiontext2-digit completion code Completions in a well detail how the wellbore is to allow the oil or gas to enter the wellbore. Common examples of a completion are open-hole completions, perforations of the production casing, running in the production tubing, and any necessary stimulation of the wellbore.
Well Type Codewell_typtextWell Type codes: BR Brine; Confidential Type Is Currently Listed As Confidential; DH Dry Hole; DS Disposal; DW Dry Wildcat; GD Gas Development; GE Gas Extension; GW Gas Wildcat; IG Gas Injection Well; IW Enhanced Oil Recovery - Injection; LP Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage; MB Monitoring Brine; MM Monitoring Miscellaneous; MS Monitoring Storage; NL Not Listed; OB Observation Well; OD Oil Development; OE Oil Extension; OW Oil Wildcat; SG Stratigraphic; ST Storage; TH Geothermal; UN Unknown
Production FieldfieldtextName of production field. A field is designated by a wells that produce from the same formation within a geographically local area. Fields can be isolated areas or may overlap with other fields. For example, five wells within a few miles of each other all producing from Formation A may form their own field (Field 1). Five wells producing from formation B may be part of an overlapping field if the geographic location of the second group (Field 2) is overlapping with that of the first group (Field 1).
