Question | question | text | DEQ has been perceived (understandably), as being lenient with those we regulate. How will you address this concern to ensure that all Oregonians (including those who have no voice, i.e. the environment), will be protected? Glass making entities have been a hot button issue. But there are many other entities emitting many tons of heavy metals. What will you do to increase monitoring? What will you propose to the legislature to lower the legally allowed thresholds of emissions? What is the role of transparency in maintaining the legitimacy & legislative funding for DEQ? What specific successes have you had in engaging low-income communities and communities of color in environmental protection efforts? How would you make the case for environmental monitoring and sampling in a situation when it is considered politically undesirable, or causes friction in the community? How would you make your case to the community? To the legislature? view top 100 |
