Access to Preventative Care
data.oaklandca.gov | Last Updated 2020-11-10T16:24:24.145ZThe Access to Preventive Care Topic includes two Indicators that measure preventable hospitalizations related to acute and chronic disease, and one that measures health insurance. Non-White Oaklanders are more likely to be hospitalized for conditions that could have been prevented by having better access to preventive care. They are also more likely to be uninsured, which is a major deterrent to accessing preventive health services. Poverty and immigration status may make it even more likely for racial and ethnic minorities to lack insurance and forego needed care.

Displacement
data.oaklandca.gov | Last Updated 2020-11-10T16:17:57.603ZThe influx of development in the Bay Area, soaring housing costs, and a lack of affordable housing, have all contributed to the displacement of Oakland residents. Displacement is difficult to measure, but the three Indicators in this Topic serve as proxies for this larger, more complex issue. Homelessness is one possible consequence of displacement, and it is also a possible consequence of eviction, which is measured in the third Indicator. The second Indicator in this Topic is a measure of housing stability, which may help to prevent displacement among homeowners.

International BRT Parking and Curb Inventory
data.oaklandca.gov | Last Updated 2019-08-22T20:53:48.000ZFehr & Peers conducted a parking inventory and occupancy study in Oakland to support the ongoing International BRT project. The study area consisted of block faces within 1,500 feet of International Boulevard between 1st Avenue and Durant Avenue, a 6.8 mile-long corridor. Inventory and occupancy data was collected for over 2,500 block faces in February of 2018 between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Block faces were selected for inclusion in the study if any portion of the block face was within 1,500 feet of International Boulevard between 1st Avenue and Durant Avenue. The total length of available parking on each block was collected for blocks with parallel parking, and a number of spaces was collected for those with angled or perpendicular parking. Spaces were further differentiated by metered, unmarked regular, commercial loading, passenger loading, and accessible spaces. Private access or otherwise reserved spaces were not included in the study. Data validation efforts included additional field visits to ground-truth the inventory data and ensure that the observed occupancies were typical, as well as comparisons of the inventory data to block face lengths to identify data entry errors. Certain block faces with identified data entry or collection errors were re-collected in subsequent field visits in March of 2018.

Physical and Mental Health
data.oaklandca.gov | Last Updated 2020-11-10T16:21:31.165ZPhysical and mental health encompasses a wide range of health outcomes and can be measured in many different ways. The Indicators in this Topic were chosen to reflect important public health issues that are not captured in other Topics in the Public Health Theme. The first two Indicators measure visits to the emergency department for severe mental illness and for substance abuse. The third Indicator measures new HIV diagnoses in Alameda County. In all three of these Indicators, the greatest disparities are between African American and Asian Oaklanders.
