Land area is a measurement providing the size, in square miles, of the land portions of geographic entities for which the Census Bureau tabulates and disseminates data. Area is calculated from the specific boundary recorded for each entity in the Census Bureau's geographic database. Land area is based on current information in the TIGER® data base, calculated for use with Census 2010.

Water Area figures include inland, coastal, Great Lakes, and territorial sea water. Inland water consists of any lake, reservoir, pond, or similar body of water that is recorded in the Census Bureau's geographic database. It also includes any river, creek, canal, stream, or similar feature that is recorded in that database as a two- dimensional feature (rather than as a single line). The portions of the oceans and related large embayments (such as Chesapeake Bay and Puget Sound), the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea that belong to the United States and its territories are classified as coastal and territorial waters; the Great Lakes are treated as a separate water entity. Rivers and bays that empty into these bodies of water are treated as inland water from the point beyond which they are narrower than 1 nautical mile across. Identification of land and inland, coastal, territorial, and Great Lakes waters is for data presentation purposes only and does not necessarily reflect their legal definitions.

    The program described below ended in 2019. This dataset is being retained for historical reference. The information displayed represents a de-identified listing of arrest data from August 1, 2012 to July 31, 2016, that was used by the Chicago Police Department’s Strategic Subject Algorithm, created by the Illinois Institute of Technology and funded through a Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance grant, to create a risk assessment score known as the Strategic Subject List or “SSL.” These scores reflect an individual’s probability of being involved in a shooting incident either as a victim or an offender. Scores are calculated and placed on a scale ranging from 0 (extremely low risk) to 500 (extremely high risk). Based on this time frame’s version of the Strategic Subject Algorithm, individuals with criminal records are ranked using eight attributes, not including race or sex. These attributes are: number of times being the victim of a shooting incident, age during the latest arrest, number of times being the victim of aggravated battery or assault, number of prior arrests for violent offenses, gang affiliation, number of prior narcotic arrests, trend in recent criminal activity and number of prior unlawful use of weapon arrests. Please note that this data set includes fields that are not used to calculate SSL, for example, neither race nor sex are used in the Strategic Subject Algorithm. Portions of the arrest data are de-identified on the basis of privacy concerns. The attributes used in the Strategic Subject Algorithm were revised on an ongoing basis during the lifetime of the program.

Additional notes:<ul><li>Data is attached via spatial join (st_contains) to each parcel's centroid.</li> <li>Centroids are based on <a href="https://datacatalog.cookcountyil.gov/Property-Taxation/ccgisdata-Parcel-2021/77tz-riq7">Cook County parcel shapefiles</a>.</li> <li>Older properties may be missing coordinates and thus also missing attached spatial data (usually they are missing a parcel boundary in the shapefile).</li> <li>Newer properties may be missing a mailing or property address, as they need to be assigned one by the postal service.</li> <li>Attached spatial data does NOT go all the way back to 1999. In June 2011, San Mateo County began working on the Fitzgerald ASBS Pollution Reduction Program http://smchealth.org/asbs to comply with the Water Board’s General Exception to the Ocean Plan with Special Protections. The program is led by the Department of Public Works in collaboration with the San Mateo County Resource Conservation District and the San Francisco Estuary Institute. The program is funded in part by a Proposition 84 grant from the State Water Resources Control Board and involves the implementation of targeted stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), water quality studies and BMP effectiveness monitoring within the ASBS watershed boundary, along with education and outreach. The program’s goal is to improve water quality and protect beneficial uses of the Fitzgerald ASBS and additionally assist in the County’s compliance with the ASBS stormwater regulations.
