A death is classified as confirmed if the person had a laboratory-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result. Some data on deaths may be unavailable due to the time lag between the death, typically reported by a hospital or other facility, and the submission of the complete death certificate. This data layer does not include probable deaths. The rates are adjusted to the 2000 U.S. standard population by the direct method and are calculated per 100,000 population. Single year age-adjusted rates are available for the five (5) leading causes of death in Howard County for 2020 - Heart Diseases, Malignant Neoplasms (Cancer), COVID-19, Cerebrovascular Diseases, and Accidents; and for leading causes of death in 2021.
