Land Area

Water Area

Land area is a measurement providing the size, in square miles, of the land portions of geographic entities for which the Census Bureau tabulates and disseminates data. Area is calculated from the specific boundary recorded for each entity in the Census Bureau's geographic database. Land area is based on current information in the TIGER® data base, calculated for use with Census 2010.

Water Area figures include inland, coastal, Great Lakes, and territorial sea water. Inland water consists of any lake, reservoir, pond, or similar body of water that is recorded in the Census Bureau's geographic database. It also includes any river, creek, canal, stream, or similar feature that is recorded in that database as a two- dimensional feature (rather than as a single line). The portions of the oceans and related large embayments (such as Chesapeake Bay and Puget Sound), the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea that belong to the United States and its territories are classified as coastal and territorial waters; the Great Lakes are treated as a separate water entity. Rivers and bays that empty into these bodies of water are treated as inland water from the point beyond which they are narrower than 1 nautical mile across. Identification of land and inland, coastal, territorial, and Great Lakes waters is for data presentation purposes only and does not necessarily reflect their legal definitions.

    Hazardous Waste Portal Manifest Metadata

    data.ct.gov | Last Updated 2024-01-23T16:24:48.000Z

Note: Please use the following view to be able to see the entire Dataset Description: https://data.ct.gov/Environment-and-Natural-Resources/Hazardous-Waste-Portal-Manifest-Metadata/x2z6-swxe Dataset Description Outline (5 sections) • INTRODUCTION • WHY USE THE CONNECTICUT OPEN DATA PORTAL MANIFEST METADATA DATASET INSTEAD OF THE DEEP DOCUMENT ONLINE SEARCH PORTAL ITSELF? • WHAT MANIFESTS ARE INCLUDED IN DEEP’S MANIFEST PERMANENT RECORDS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE VIA THE DEEP DOCUMENT SEARCH PORTAL AND CT OPEN DATA? • HOW DOES THE PORTAL MANIFEST METADATA DATASET RELATE TO THE OTHER TWO MANIFEST DATASETS PUBLISHED IN CT OPEN DATA? • IMPORTANT NOTES INTRODUCTION • All of DEEP’s paper hazardous waste manifest records were recently scanned and “indexed”. • Indexing consisted of 6 basic pieces of information or “metadata” taken from each manifest about the Generator and stored with the scanned image. The metadata enables searches by: Site Town, Site Address, Generator Name, Generator ID Number, Manifest ID Number and Date of Shipment. • All of the metadata and scanned images are available electronically via DEEP’s Document Online Search Portal at: https://filings.deep.ct.gov/DEEPDocumentSearchPortal/ • Therefore, it is no longer necessary to visit the DEEP Records Center in Hartford for manifest records or information. • This CT Data dataset “Hazardous Waste Portal Manifest Metadata” (or “Portal Manifest Metadata”) was copied from the DEEP Document Online Search Portal, and includes only the metadata – no images. WHY USE THE CONNECTICUT OPEN DATA PORTAL MANIFEST METADATA DATASET INSTEAD OF THE DEEP DOCUMENT ONLINE SEARCH PORTAL ITSELF? The Portal Manifest Metadata is a good search tool to use along with the Portal. Searching the Portal Manifest Metadata can provide the following advantages over searching the Portal: • faster searches, especially for “large searches” - those with a large number of search returns unlimited number of search returns (Portal is limited to 500); • larger display of search returns; • search returns can be sorted and filtered online in CT Data; and • search returns and the entire dataset can be downloaded from CT Data and used offline (e.g. download to Excel format) • metadata from searches can be copied from CT Data and pasted into the Portal search fields to quickly find single scanned images. The main advantages of the Portal are: • it provides access to scanned images of manifest documents (CT Data does not); and • images can be downloaded one or multiple at a time. WHAT MANIFESTS ARE INCLUDED IN DEEP’S MANIFEST PERMANENT RECORDS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE VIA THE DEEP DOCUMENT SEARCH PORTAL AND CT OPEN DATA? All hazardous waste manifest records received and maintained by the DEEP Manifest Program; including: • manifests originating from a Connecticut Generator or sent to a Connecticut Destination Facility including manifests accompanying an exported shipment • manifests with RCRA hazardous waste listed on them (such manifests may also have non-RCRA hazardous waste listed) • manifests from a Generator with a Connecticut Generator ID number (permanent or temporary number) • manifests with sufficient quantities of RCRA hazardous waste listed for DEEP to consider the Generator to be a Small or Large Quantity Generator • manifests with PCBs listed on them from 2016 to 6-29-2018. • Note: manifests sent to a CT Destination Facility were indexed by the Connecticut or Out of State Generator. Searches by CT Designated Facility are not possible unless such facility is the Generator for the purposes of manifesting. All other manifests were considered “non-hazardous” manifests and not scanned. They were discarded after 2 years in accord with DEEP records retention schedule. Non-hazardous manifests include: • Manifests with only non-RCRA hazardous waste listed • Manifests from generators that did not have a permanent or temporary Generator ID number • Sometimes non-hazardous manifests were considered “Hazar

    Public Investment Community Index

    data.ct.gov | Last Updated 2024-07-12T18:04:47.000Z

The Office of Policy and Management (OPM) prepares the Public Investment Community (PIC) index not later than July 15 annually, pursuant to §7-545 of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS). The PIC index measures the relative wealth and need of Connecticut’s towns by ranking them in descending order by their cumulative point allocations for: (1) per capita income; (2) adjusted equalized net grand list per capita; (3) equalized mill rate; (4) per capita aid to children receiving Temporary Family Assistance program benefits; and (5) unemployment rate. Pursuant to CGS §7-545 the PIC index includes each town that has a cumulative point ranking in the top quartile of the PIC Index (i.e. the 42 towns with the highest number of points). When a town’s ranking falls below the top quartile in a given fiscal year, the town's designation as a Public Investment Community continues for that year and the following four fiscal years. As a result, the PIC index includes certain towns carried over from previous fiscal years. The PIC index determines eligibility for several financial assistance programs that various agencies administer, including: -Urban Action Bond Assistance -Small Town Economic Assistance Program -Community Economic Development Program -Residential Mortgage Guarantee Program -Education Cost Sharing -Malpractice Insurance Purchase Program -Connecticut Manufacturing Innovation Fund -Enterprise Corridor Zone Designation Most of the towns included on the PIC index are eligible to elect for assistance under the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) in lieu of Urban Action Bond assistance, pursuant to CGS §4-66g(b). An eligible town’s legislative body (or its board of selectmen if the town’s legislative body is the town meeting) must vote to choose STEAP assistance and the town must notify OPM following the vote. STEAP election is valid for four years and the statute allows extensions for additional four-year periods. STEAP election is not available for Ansonia, Bridgeport, Bristol, Danbury, East Hartford, Enfield, Groton, Hartford, Killingly, Manchester, Meriden, Middletown, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Norwalk, Norwich, Stamford, Torrington, Vernon, Waterbury, West Hartford, West Haven, and Windham. COVID-19 Vaccinations by County - ARCHIVED

    data.ct.gov | Last Updated 2023-08-02T15:27:03.000Z

NOTE: As of 2/16/2023, This page is not being updated, for data on COVID-19 Updated (Bivalent) Booster Coverage go to https://data.ct.gov/Health-and-Human-Services/COVID-19-Updated-Bivalent-Booster-Coverage-By-Town/bqd5-4jgh. Important change as of June 1, 2022 As of June 1, 2022, we will be using 2020 DPH provisional census estimates* to calculate vaccine coverage percentages at the county level. 2020 estimates will replace the 2019 estimates that have been used. Caution should be taken when making comparisons of percentages calculated using the 2019 and 2020 census estimates since observed difference may result from the shift in the denominator. * DPH Provisional State and County Characteristics Estimates April 1, 2020. Hayes L, Abdellatif E, Jiang Y, Backus K (2022) Connecticut DPH Provisional April 1, 2020, State Population Estimates by 18 age groups, sex, and 6 combined race and ethnicity groups. Connecticut Department of Public Health, Health Statistics & Surveillance, SAR, Hartford, CT. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ This tables shows the number and percent of people that have initiated COVID-19 vaccination, are fully vaccinated and had additional dose 1 by county of residence. All data in this report are preliminary; data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected. Population size estimates are based on 2019 DPH census estimates until 5/26/2022. From 6/1/2022, 2020 DPH provisional census estimates are used. A person who has received at least one dose of any COVID-19 vaccine is considered to have initiated vaccination. A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have completed a primary series by receiving 2 doses of the Pfizer, Novavax or Moderna vaccines or 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The fully vaccinated are a subset of the number who have initiated vaccination. Percentages are calculated using 2019 census data (https://portal.ct.gov/DPH/Health-Information-Systems--Reporting/Population/Annual-Town-and-County-Population-for-Connecticut). A person who completed a Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or Johnson & Johnson primary series (as defined above) and then had an additional monovalent dose of COVID-19 vaccine is considered to have had additional dose 1. The additional dose may be Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or Johnson & Johnson and may be a different type from the primary series. For people who had a primary Pfizer or Moderna series, additional dose 1 was counted starting August 18th, 2021. For people with a Johnson & Johnson primary series additional dose 1 was counted starting October 22nd, 2021. For most people, additional dose 1 is a booster. However, additional dose 1 may represent a supplement to the primary series for a people who is moderately or severely immunosuppressed. Bivalent booster administrations are not included in the additional dose 1 calculations. The percent with at least one dose may be over-estimated and the percent fully and additional dose 1 vaccinated may be under-estimated because of vaccine administration records for individuals that cannot be linked because of differences in how names or date of birth are reported. County of residence is determined based on the town of residence. Town of residence is verified by geocoding the reported address and then mapping it to a town using municipal boundaries. If an address cannot be geocoded, the reported town is used, if available. Out-of-state residents vaccinated by CT providers excluded from this table. People for whom an address is not currently available are shown in this table as “Address pending validation”. Connecticut COVID-19 Vaccine Program providers are required to report information on all COVID-19 vaccine doses administered to CT WiZ, the Connecticut Immunization Information System. Data on doses administered to CT residents out-of-state are being added to CT WiZ jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction.

These tables will stop being updated after June 1, 2023. COVID-19 vaccination reporting is expected to resume when a new COVID-19 vaccination formulation is authorized.
Updated (Bivalent) COVID- 19 Vaccination by Age Group As 4/22/2023, CDC recommends bivalent vaccine for everyone regardless of age and whether or not the person has had prior monovalent vaccine. This table shows the cumulative number and percentage of people who have received an updated (bivalent) COVID-19 vaccine by age group . • Data are reported weekly on Thursday and include doses administered to Saturday of the previous week. • All data in this report are preliminary. Data for previous weeks may be changed because of delays in reporting, deduplication, or correction of errors. • The table groups people based on their current age and excludes people known to be deceased. • The analyses here are based on data reported to CT WiZ which is the immunization information system for CT. Connecticut COVID-19 Vaccine Program providers are required to report to CT WiZ all COVID-19 doses administered in CT including to CT residents and to residents of other jurisdictions. CT Wiz also receives records on CT residents vaccinated in other jurisdictions and by federal entities which share data with CT WiZ electronically (currently: RI, NJ, New York City, DE, Philadelphia, NV, Indian Health Service, Department of Veterans Affairs (doses administered since 11/2022)). Electronic data exchange is being added jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction. Once a jurisdiction is added to CT WiZ, the records for residents of that jurisdiction vaccinated in CT are removed. For example, when CT residents vaccinated in NYC were added, NYC residents vaccinated in CT were removed. • Population size estimates used to calculate cumulative percentages are based on 2020 DPH provisional census estimates**. • Cumulative percentage estimates have been capped at 100%. Observed percentages may be higher than 100% for multiple reasons, inaccuracies in the census denominators or reporting errors. * DPH Provisional State and County Characteristics Estimates April 1, 2020. Connecticut Divorce Index, 1655-1953

    internal-ct.data.socrata.com | Last Updated 2024-08-12T18:00:58.000Z

Divorce records are often a valuable source of information for researchers, as they can provide sometimes difficult to find information like a couple's date of marriage, the names of children, and a woman's maiden name. They also allow a fascinating insight into the values and mores surrounding marriage at the time. Connecticut began granting divorces in the mid-17th century, although only very, very sparingly at first. In the beginning only the General Assembly could grant a divorce; as the court system developed this eventually became mainly the purview of the superior courts, although the General Assembly continued to grant divorces until the early 20th century. This index is a combination of several different indexes created by Connecticut State Library staff over a period of many years. It contains divorce records for the following counties and dates: Fairfield: 1712-1941 Hartford: 1712-1953 Litchfield: 1751-1798, 1899-1927* Middlesex: 1786-1904 New Haven: 1712-1944 New London: 1712-1798* Tolland: 1786-1937 Windham: 1712-1798, 1907-1921* It also contains divorces granted by the General Assembly for 1655-1915. Divorce records for Litchfield, New London, and Windham Counties that fall in years not included in this list can be found in two books compiled by Barbara B. Ferris and Grace Louise Knox in the 1980s, located in the History & Genealogy reading room:

Connecticut divorces: Superior court records for the counties of New London, Tolland & Windham, 1719-1910

Connecticut divorces: Superior Court records for the counties of Litchfield, 1752-1922 and Hartford, 1740-1849

Each entry in this list has a location of either a record or a file. Records are a brief summary of the case and the court's verdict that can be found in court record books. Files may have more information, such as the original divorce petition, statements from the litigants and witnesses, costs, and other material. To request a digital of physical copy of a record or file, please contact the staff of the History & Genealogy Unit by telephone (860) 757-6580 or email. There may be a small fee, depending on the size of the order and whether you would like a digital or physical copy. When requesting a copy of a record or file, please include the information from the relevant entry in the index. You are also more than welcome to visit the Connecticut State Library to see these materials for yourself! Note: Several volumes have extra, non-numbered pages at the end; these are denoted by a typographical mark and the word “misc.” *The February, 1769 term of the Superior Court in Fairfield is filed in a folder in the state archives RG 003, Superior Court Fairfield County Records/Dockets, Box 51. **Volume 19 contains miscellaneous papers at the end of the numbered pages. These papers are mostly in chronological order, and include court files, invoices, and the records of a few Superior Court terms. †Volume 21 contains miscellaneous papers at the end of the numbered pages. These papers are mostly in chronological order, and include court files and records for certain Superior Court terms. ††Volume 22 contains miscellaneous papers at the end of the numbered pages. These papers are mostly in chronological order, and include court files and records for certain Superior Court terms. ‡ Volume 28 contains miscellaneous papers at the end of the numbered pages. Some of these are a continuation of the August, 1793 session of the court at Litchfield.

    Hartford, Connecticut Courant Index 1764 – 1799

    internal-ct.data.socrata.com | Last Updated 2024-07-02T17:04:05.000Z

The Connecticut Courant Index, 1764-1799 contains thousands of entries searchable by Name, Town, or Subject taken from a slip index found in the History & Genealogy Reading Room of the Connecticut State Library. It includes advertisements by name of merchant or tradesmen, though not by individual items for sale. Names of specific articles offered for sale may be found under Merchants in (name of town). Druggists in (name of town), etc. This index omits vital statistics, [except deaths of Connecticut people in other places], probate notices, tax sale lists, notices of cattle and horses lost and found, post office lists of letters (except by name of town, post office, letters held), and notices of farms, houses and land for sale. In the spring of 2001, Kathryn Black, a volunteer from the Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council, Inc., along with State Library staff, began entering the information on the slips to The Connecticut Courant Index, 1764 -1799 into a database in order to provide researchers remote access to this wonderful resource. After 45,857 entries, volunteers and staff completed the database in December of 2007. This database is of great significance as it will likely display entries for articles not found in the scanned and indexed Historical Hartford Courant as the machine readable software used may not have correctly read the printed word as found on the original newspaper correctly. Database Fields Below, researchers will find a list and explanation (when necessary) of the fields used in the database. When searching for a first or last name, also check the Subject Field, as the names of businesses and organizations are entered here. Also, keep in mind that a person can be the Subject of an entry. Check for the names of towns, states, and counties in the Subject Field as well as the individual fields.
